As an older sister, I have always loved teaching my younger siblings and helping them understand the world around them. For me, tutoring is a way to share my curiosity and amazement of the world, and show students that learning can make our lives so much richer.

I began formally tutoring in my senior year of high school, throughout which I had a weekly 1-1 session with an elementary school student, teaching her beginner Spanish.

Later in college, I spent a semester tutoring high school students in a variety of topics.

For the past three and a half years, I have also been volunteering at a local afterschool program for children grades K-8. In this role, I often help students with their homework, and tutor them in subjects they are struggling with. The greatest reward is always seeing that lightbulb go off in a student's head when they finally understand what we have been working on.

I am very passionate about the life sciences (namely all things biology and general chemistry), as I feel that they give us a glimpse into how the world works, and can be applied to daily life, no matter where you are or what you do. I am especially interested in cellular biology and genetics. :)

I also love tutoring Spanish! I spent a summer in Spain as a teenager, studied in Argentina this past summer for a few weeks, and had the opportunity to spend my final semester last fall studying abroad in Costa Rica. Spanish has allowed me to connect with so many people I would have been otherwise unable to communicate with, and I am firm believer that anyone can learn a foreign language. Having Spanish language skills not only open doors internationally, but is an incredibly useful skill to have here in the United States.

I graduated this fall from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Biology, and minors in Chemistry and Spanish. I will be attending medical school next fall.
