I received my Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with a minor in Geology from Brigham Young University-Idaho. During my time there, I discovered an interest in not only physics but also math, geology, literature and music.
After graduation, my travels led me to numerous jobs that covered a wide range of backgrounds from working on nuclear reactors and oil rigs as a scientist, to Disney World for a time.
My last job before I had my babies was as a substitute for both of the school districts in my hometown. While I hadn't ever taught before, I was surprised to discover how much I enjoyed it. I taught all ages. I could be warm and animated with the younger children but easy-going and funny with the older students. I taught in all subjects but preferred the higher level math and science because that is where most people struggle.
After this, I realized that from all the jobs I'd had, teaching brought me the most joy and satisfaction. Being able to see that 'light bulb' moment in someone's eyes when they finally 'get it' is one of the best things in the world.
I feel that knowledge opens the world up to us and allows us to fully enjoy it. I want to help students improve their confidence and know that they can learn hard things and not be afraid to experience all this world has to offer.
