The writer William Arthur Bard once said that a great teacher inspires. Hence, for me, teaching is an art that can influence young lives and shape humanity's future. I am in my third year of college at the University of Maryland, majoring in Psychology, though that does not encompass the wide-ranging interests I have. While I only have experience teaching Math, I can also teach Psychology and English. I have worked as a math tutor at a local Mathnasium center, an opportunity that allowed me to interact with students of various age groups and develop a flexible teaching style. I truly believe that every child has immense potential and it is waiting to be realized by a good mentor or teacher. I am multilingual, a strength that I can use to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people and also promote inclusivity among students. While I adapt my teaching style based on the student, I combine different learning modalities into the lesson plan so that students are comfortable with the topic. When students understand the topic because of real-life examples, it removes the need for rote learning and makes it easier to score on exams. Learning is key to a successful life and the more one engages with the information they learn, the more they will retain it throughout their lives. The most important thing for me is that my students enjoy the learning process and are not facing any forms of stress; It provides me satisfaction when children are enthusiastic about learning and I am willing to give extra support if it means that the student gets more interested in the topic. Other than teaching and studying, I like to read novels, play professional table tennis (ping-pong), and visit the different museums in the area.
