Hello! I am a science-loving guy with a bachelor's in math. I consider calculus my strong suit, but I am well-versed. My teaching philosophy revolves around teaching students the skills necessary to teach themselves, and to try different teaching approaches to find what works best for a student. I do not believe in failure in education; learning is inherently trial and error. Misunderstanding leads to deeper thinking, and there is always a different approach to learning a new concept. I myself have had a very bumpy road with mathematics in my past, and through this I have learned some valuable lessons about learning that I would love to share with you.

Read on if you would like to hear my story!

Ever since I was a toddler, I have been fascinated by science. I've always wanted to learn about the universe around me. However, before high school, I considered myself bad at math. Algebra in particular intimidated me, and I was worried I was not learning what I needed to know. With interests lying in math-related subjects, this was particularly worrisome for me. However, during high school, I had the honor of working with a teacher that took the time to understand my learning style and try different approaches. Eventually, while working with her, things "clicked," and I began getting better at math very fast. Soon, I began tutoring for her. With math being both challenging and important for me, I found learning it satisfying. With this in mind, I later took a career class hosted by my math teacher, where with her guidance, I decided I would get a bachelor's degree in mathematics.

Through this, I have learned a valuable lesson: Nobody is bad at math, nor bad at learning. Every person will have an ideal way of learning a piece of information, and finding that method is key. Those who believe themselves to be "bad at math" do not yet have the tools necessary to find that ideal way for new problems, and thus teachers must try new approaches to find out how to teach their students best. There is no one size fits all in education.

Remember these words as you grow towards excellence: Stupidity is not ignorance; it is refusing to fill that ignorance with knowledge. It does not matter what you know in this moment; if you seek to learn, your potential outshines even the most knowledgeable of people who refuse to change and grow. Never give up.

Hobbies

My interests lie in physics and astronomy, and I intend to pursue a Ph.D in either physics or applied mathematics. However, it is difficult for me to pick just one subject; biology, chemistry, engineering and more are all very interesting to me as well. I am very curious about the world and the greater universe around that, and I seek to learn as much about it as possible, while also enjoying life in the process! My day-to-day interests mostly consist of videogames and youtube, though I also spend a good amount of that time watching scientific or other educational content, so I am always learning. Hobbies: Astronomy. I enjoy using my telescope, and generally learning about the universe. I try to keep up to date on big discoveries and ideas as humanity discovers them. Microscopy. I have a microscope, and I enjoy exploring with it. I enjoy situations where I can use it to figure out what something is for my family. Oyster mushroom gardening. I grow mushrooms for dinners and such. My goal is to be able to grow them without spending any money on supplies. I really enjoy turning what is usually trash, like cardboard and coffee grounds, into something useful. I definitely recommend it, it's far easier than most plants!
