As a teacher, and a student who utilized tutoring multiple times, my goal is to aid every student succeed to the best of my ability.
I have experience as a student teacher at both the high school and middle school levels, as well as a substitute teacher for grades 6-8.
I attended, graduated, and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire for secondary education.
I teach/tutor most subjects under the wide umbrella of classes labeled as "Social Studies" with a focus on History, Politics, Geography, and Civics.
World History, specifically the 19th and 20th century, is by far my favorite subject to teach and tutor. I have an ever growing collection of books, artifacts, and knowledge pertaining to the time period and school curriculum, and I enjoy sharing that knowledge.
My teaching philosophy centers on creating an inclusive, engaging, and student-centered environment, even in an online setting, where respect and empathy are paramount. I value diverse backgrounds and strive to foster a safe virtual space for all voices, using varied digital tools and strategies to ensure active student involvement and choice. My virtual tutoring style is adaptable and reflective, focusing on breaking down source material and complex concepts into manageable parts, then gradually building complexity as students gain understanding. I prioritize open communication through virtual platforms and tailor my approach to meet each student's unique needs, encouraging them to explore different avenues for learning and to choose methods that best support their educational growth and experience.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading science fiction novels, sessions of Dungeons and Dragons, and playing story driven video games. I also love adding to my historical collection, which allows me to delve into different eras and cultures.
