I am a Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) at the University of Leeds where I also completed my undergraduate BA Classical Literature and English. Currently, I am pursuing a Masters research degree in Ancient Greek Literature, applying post-colonial, feminist, and queer theory to my analysis of ancient Greek fiction.
As a trained Tutor with experience mentoring and guiding students from a variety of backgrounds and age groups: from pre-school level through to GCSE mathematics; peer mentoring English Literature students for essay assignments; and developing English skills of non-native adult speakers. I speak Cantonese fluently and conversational Mandarin. Each and every student has a different skillset and personality which can help them achieve academic and personal goals throughout their lives.
I am primarily an English Literature tutor, although I enjoy tutoring English language and humanities essay writing as well as working on careers advice with my peers. My teaching style is very open; I encourage students to develop their own understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and I tailor my approach accordingly in order to expand confidence and ability. I ask questions to structure a session, and I believe that helping students to self-assess and develop critical thinking can support their independence outside of tutoring. I'm always happy to help, and enjoy working through problems together with people, rather than providing all the answers. Because I love hearing about different perspectives and interpretations, English Literature is one of my favourite subjects to tutor, as I always learn something new from my students.
