I'm as unconventional as they come, but that just makes my lessons and methods stick in people's heads all the better. I've taught in the USA and in Europe, and I am especially talented at teaching online, and am far more personable and tech-savvy than the average teacher. I have seen a dramatic amount of students struggling post COVID or being misdiagnosed with IEPs when in reality, they just fell behind in extraordinary circumstances during the pandemic and suffer on top of that due to strained resources and a broken approach to education that occurs nationwide.
My method works because I apply a *much* higher standard than typical American school teaching. The USA is slipping out of education rankings and the average American speaks 0.8 languages; we're not even at 1 language, including English! I believe people are much smarter than what they're given credit for, whether they're kids, tweens, teens, or adults. Likewise, I have lived in 5 states and 3 countries, and I'm aware of the drastic differences and non-uniformity in education. I want to beat standards, not meet standards.
I train my clients' minds in multiple areas at once while focusing on the primary subject they need help with, and I make their thinking more versatile and adaptable. The beauty of tutoring is that it is a one-on-one focused experience, and I want to make the most of that and bond with my clients and cater to their interests. I love watching them grow and the pride and joy I feel in seeing that transformation has convinced me to put more time into Varsity Tutors. I'm not going to parrot what a thousand teachers or SparkNotes say about The Great Gatsby when teaching literature, or ramble on about confusing spelling rules in a language that always breaks those rules. Instead, I'm going to make sure my students can read ANY book and have stronger analysis in general, or learn to spell simply through continuous exposure by reading.
I have lived my life with ADHD (and you bet I work with students with ADHD), yet despite my diagnosis, I managed to become a top student all throughout my life. This was due to self-awareness, learning from others, and hyperfocusing on things that interested me and reading all about them. I'm a great teacher because for the most part, I taught myself much of the way, and I'm a tough client. If I can teach myself something, I can teach anyone anything within my fields, which are writing, reading, public speaking, social studies (history and geography), and film studies. My passion can be contagious, and often, I find my clients turn from short-term needs to long-term pupils, which I greatly enjoy.
Lastly, yes, I am bilingual in Spanish!
