I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a focus on education and psychology from the University of Mississippi. Shortly after that, I took the chance to complete my student teaching through the University of Iowa while living with my mother-in-law in Germany. It is here that I began my career as a certified teacher with the Department of Defense Dependents' Schools. For the past 23 years, I have taught the children of the U.S. Army soldiers stationed in and around Grafenwoehr, Germany. During that time, I have taught a wide range of subjects, recertified in secondary mathematics, recertified in secondary science, and earned certification as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) instructor. I also received my Masters of Educational Psychology from Capella University and served as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics/Statistics for the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) during this time. I have instructed students as young as sixth grade through mature adults pursuing their college degrees. I have taught in person, online, and hybrid with an assortment of curricular materials and technology. Not only have I been a primary classroom instructor, but I also tutored individuals in whatever subject they needed assistance. During my teaching career, I found extraordinary joy in working with students with special needs as well as small groups focused on being college/career ready. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about mathematics and study skills. In my experience helping struggling students, we always seem to have the most fun looking for silly ways to memorize processes and find shortcuts that work every time. I am a firm believer that anyone can learn math and try to show my students that the effort needed to succeed in math translates to everyday life as well. In my spare time, I enjoy reading anything that strikes my fancy, walking with my dog, gardening, and testing new recipes on my musician husband.
