Certified Tutor
I began my healthcare career with an AS in Dental Hygiene, and I have been a provider in various offices for 24 years. During my time as a Dental Hygienist, I took pride in my roles as a leader and trainer of fellow office coworkers and nationwide trainer of employees on the dental Electronic Health Records system as well as treating and educating patients on their dental conditions.
I entered nursing school to pursue a new aspect of healthcare in 2013 and achieved my ASN in 2014. Upon graduation, I began teaching and assisting at the same college where I attended nursing school. I taught math to the HVAC students, Medical Assisting courses, and NHA certification exam prep for the CCMA certification exam. I was also a nursing clinical instructor and ran nursing simulations and taught the Anatomy and Physiology nursing prerequisite course for our RN program. I also tutored nursing and medical assisting students on dosage calculation and medication administration. My experience with the quality of instruction and the inspiration I received from my instructors and coworkers at that school led me to pursue a higher degree and instilled a life-long love of learning and teaching.
I continued my education and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through distance education and later a Master of Science in Nursing Education from American Sentinel University.
I was employed at another career college where I facilitated nursing students in reaching their goal of passing NCLEX, assisted in Medical Assisting and Dental Assisting labs, and created curricula for a Dental Hygiene online Bachelor's Degree Program. I ended 2019 and began 2020 as an RN Unit manager and trained and assessed nurses and CNAs in a skilled nursing facility as we experienced a COVID outbreak.
Beginning in 2020, I have been instructing Medical Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology to Allied Health students which includes Dental Assistant and Medical Assistant students. These courses are entry-level and include instruction in writing and APA formatting of references. I am also a caregiver to elderly my parents. My dad is 95 and my mom is 90.
I love teaching and meeting new students. Although I can tutor many subjects, my favorite tutoring subject is Medical Terminology. I have a background in Latin from high school and this along with my diverse background and experience in collaboration has facilitated my understanding of many terms used in the healthcare profession.
I also enjoy my time off. I am married and have two grown children and a teenage granddaughter. I like to read, listen to music, and visit museums. I also like nurturing my garden and raising butterflies, cooking, sewing, crafts such as quilling, card making and egg crafts (I raise chickens), kayaking, and hiking in my spare time.
I believe in encouraging self-sufficiency to promote critical thinking in students.
I believe that pride in one's achievements is the key to stimulating the drive to reach their maximum potential.
I believe in fostering a sense of uniqueness by creating a caring, safe environment in which students can be free to take risks and learn from the results.
I believe that it is important to make the most of the time I have to make a difference in a student's self-confidence which can lead to growth and self-sufficiency.
I believe that every student has a right to be successful. Each individual learning style should be honored.
I believe that all students can learn and a teacher with high expectations can help lead them to positive outcomes.
