I am a graduate of Texas Tech University. I received my doctorate in History, with a focus on medieval history, religion, and disability studies. I have taught both U.S. courses spanning early America to the present and World History courses as well. I also have an MA in Government/Political Science from Texas Woman's University and have taught courses in U.S. Government and Texas Government. I focused on international relations and foreign policy for my master's degree. I have tutored extensively, both one-on-one in my own courses, led discussion sessions for larger government and history courses, and also specialize in working with students with disabilities. I have also privately tutored high school students in history and government. I am very passionate about American history and teaching it from the historical, cultural, and political standpoints so students understand how leaders shape events, but also how society changed and influenced American history. I am also passionate about medieval history and World History because I feel that these subjects also help students to think critically about history and how to make critical arguments about historical events and individuals. In my Government/Political Science tutoring and courses, I am passionate with conveying information and helping students to break down difficult ideas and events, so that they can think about ideas central to why government works the way it does. I believe that learning is essential for student success and I tailor how I tutor based on what the student needs and how the student learns best. I am willing to bring in different types of tutoring techniques so that students receive the help they need to succeed and apply some of the lessons to other classes and decision-making. I am currently working on an education doctorate so that I can continue to bring the best tutoring and teaching to my students.
