I am a veteran teacher with 32 years of experience. I see teaching as a wonderful venture into growing minds and helping learners see and fulfill their potential. My teaching style is centered on an encouraging growth mindset. I strive to make the learning process fun, exploratory, and challenging. I know how important it is to get to know and meet the student where they are developmentally for success in growing their skills.
My passion is teaching art and the creative process. Seeing learners become free of the fear of making "mistakes" and understanding mistakes are a vital part of growing and a process of artistic creation. I find myself at home and at peace when I pick up a brush or pencil and start creating. For those learners who feel the same, I hope to help them grow into their own artist voice. I also believe that everyone can learn to appreciate the arts in all its forms and grow as an individual by experiencing the creative process.
I hold a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from UTSA, a Texas Teaching Certificate along with ESL certification. I have taught in the elementary and intermediate settings. I facilitated student Art Clubs, Annual Art performances and Art Shows for my students, as well as campus sculpture garden displays and murals.
I look forward to starting the learning adventure soon with all interested!
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: The University of Texas at San Antonio - Bachelor in Arts, Painting
My spare time is spent enjoying my family and friends company, especially my new granddaughter :). I can frequently be found painting, drawing, reading, planting a new plant in my backyard, sitting in the waves at a beach, kayaking or floating down a Texas river on a tube!
