I am a graduate of the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) with a B.S. in Finance. I also attended the Washington University School of Medicine's DPT program in St Louis briefly before withdrawing to begin my entrepreneurship career.
Currently I am in the process of earning my CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certification, and I also hope to be accepted to a graduate psych program next year.

In terms of my overall approach, I'm a big believer that meta-learning (the skill of learning how to learn) should be foundational to all education. A little knowledge about how your brain works and learns new things demystifies the learning process, which grows the student's confidence. Having the confidence that you can learn anything you choose is empowering to say the least. Having worked with under-privileged youth, I developed a passion for wanting to impart practical knowledge and skills to them.

The bulk of my experience in tutoring has been in the form of 1-on-1 in-person sessions. When I tutor, my main goal is to get the core of the message across in as simple terms as possible. This is usually accomplished through an analogy/metaphor to which the student can relate. Then once the foundation is established, we add in complexity through hands-on case studies and examples.

I am comfortable tutoring essentially any finance or business topic. Between my academic career and professional experience, there is little in that realm I am not at least proficient in. I feel being a practitioner not only adds to my credibility but also to my teaching ability, as it allows me to draw on real scenarios when communicating a particular concept.

Because of that, the subjects I am most enthusiastic about tutoring are the ones for which I have the most real-world experience - most of which comes from serving as the finance & accounting arm of small businesses and investment companies.

Hobbies

Growing up I could always see myself pursuing any number of a hundred different career paths, simply because I found nearly everything so interesting. Fortunately (or unfortunately) my interests have only become more varied over time. Outside of work I love learning about topics for which I have a genuine curiosity. I am endlessly fascinated by psychology and neuroscience fields and their practical application in everyday life. Activity wise, I am a big fan of anything active. Things like rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, backpacking, basketball, and working out are where I invest most of my time and recreational resources. Along this same thread, I regularly compete in adventure races. Some goals I have related to the pursuit of my interests and hobbies are: becoming certified in skydiving (so I can start hang-gliding and wingsuit flying) & completing a mountaineering skills course in Alaska. Soon I hope to begin taking groups of (underprivileged) teens on multi-day excursions to not only teach them outdoor skills, but more so to teach them mental toughness techniques.
