As a tenured creative professional, I'm passionate about language and expression. I love to help students and professionals find their unique communicative voice, and gain skills to express themselves clearly and with intention. I think that basic writing and communication skills are vital for any field, which is why I love to teach language arts and creative writing. The key is confidence - in short, I help my students gain confidence as writers.
I hold a degree in English/Creative Writing and Music Composition from Goucher College. I also studied children's literature at Johns Hopkins University. I've worked as a teacher, tutor, creative writing mentor, editor, proofreader, and an author for nearly a decade, prior to which I was a published lyricist and performing songwriter. I'm a Kratz Writing Fellow, and the recipient of the Finlandia, Mellon, and Applestein-Sweren literary awards.
I share from a deep well of techniques, offering reliable systems and unconventional approaches to discovering and honing your personal voice as a writer. I pay special attention to you, the student, and structure my teaching methods based on your learning style. Sometimes it's just a matter of finding a new perspective, and suddenly it clicks. I look forward to working together!
