About Me

After graduating from college in China where I obtained a bachelor's degree in English education, I obtained a master's degree in education at Oakland University while simultaneously teaching mandarin Chinese at two public elementary schools in Michigan. After graduating, I received a second master's degree with a focus on ESL and gifted and talented education from Southern Methodist University in Texas. I have since worked at Walnut Hill Elementary School teaching pre-K3 to 5th grade students mandarin Chinese. During my teaching experiences, I synthesized my familiarity of the Chinese and American education systems into my unique teaching style that uses a variety of high-yield multimedia and hands-on activities to engage my students. I not only taught students the Chinese language but also its culture since I know language can't be learned in the absence of cultural context. I believe everyone can learn mandarin Chinese at their own pace and preferred learning style, which is why I am also flexible in ways to impart my passion of teaching Chinese to all my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, doing yoga, watching anime, and spending time with my daughter and family.
