I am an educator who is entering my 7th year of Secondary English Education. I am a graduate of the University of Iowa (BA Secondary English Education; Minors Human Relations, Psychology, Reading, and Athletic Coaching) and Drake University (M.S.E Culturally Responsive Leadership and Instruction with an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education). Based on my personal experiences in education as well as my studies, my approach to teaching is one in which building positive relationships with students is my first priority. In doing so, I can better understand who they are, what they're interested in, and the ways in which I can best meet their academic needs. Additionally, I have worked with students with a range of needs, including students who are English Language Learners, Students who have goals in Special Education, and students who are identified as Gifted and Talented. This equips me with the capacity to differentiate as needed.

I am passionate about reading, writing, and the exploration of literature. Being able to read critically and articulate ideas meaningful are skills that empower young people to thrive as 21st-century learners. I believe that my love of these topics, coupled with my ability to connect with young people, allows me to help them meet their goals. I strongly believe in finding relevant materials that also challenge students to achieve highly. In this way, students are actively connected and engaged in their learning.

Outside of education, I have many interests including playing recreational sports like volleyball and softball, creating/playing/listening to music, cycling/exercise, and gaming. I believe my many interests help me connect with student, allowing them to feel valued, validated, and able to achieve a great deal academically.
