As an Electrical Engineer with 35 years of experience, math has played a key role in my life. I obtained three degrees in the electronics field: an Associate Degree in Electronics from a technical college in Tennessee, a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, and a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. My career began as an intern with NASA where I worked on the Space Shuttle program. A highlight of my life was watching the very first space shuttle launch. But after obtaining my degrees, I went into the semiconductor business where I have remained. My career as an engineer and an engineering manager often required that I teach classes in the companies I worked for on the physics and techniques of the trade. Doing so led me to consider the possibility of teaching as a second career, so in 2004 I obtained a certificate through the Post Baccalaureate Teacher Preparation Program at Rio Salado Community College. This required that I work as a student teacher. I did my student teaching at Kyrene Aprende Middle School after which I applied for and received my Arizona Teaching Certificate. I remained an Electrical Engineer for another two decades but have continued to teach on the side. I taught 52 online math classes through the University of Phoenix and, in more recent years, was hired in the role of an Adjunct Faculty member at Arizona State University where I have taught four classes and am scheduled to teach another during the Spring Semester of 2020. These classes at ASU consist of two undergraduate and two graduate level electrical engineering courses. But my interest expands beyond that to include history and literature as well. I believe that through my experience and my interests I can be a beneficial tutor to students striving to be their best in today's competitive environment.
