I am a graduate student from University of Southern California where I received my masters in Social Work. I also have my bachelors in Psychology. My experience with tutoring students is that I worked in a high school in Philadelphia that was on the verge of failing and worked in the classrooms with 9th graders to help them in the classroom as well as outside with their school work. I also have worked with preschool age children as well to help teach them their alphabet and numbers to help them prepare for kindergarten. I love helping students in all age groups and I love the look on a student when they finally grasp a concept that has been alluding them.
I tutor a variety of subjects but the main ones I focus on are algebra, elementary school writing/math/reading, geometry, pre-algebra, psychology and study skills.
My tutoring style is that I am a visual learner so I liked to teach that way to my students. I believe that sometimes you have to think outside the box when trying to learn or teach a new concept and one way may not work for everyone. I think visual learning is beneficial because it can broaden the mind of the student to think of a problem regardless of how it is written. I believe that students can be their own teachers if they just have someone to help them look outside the box and find what works for them.
