I attended Truman State and received a Bachelor's in biology while minoring in chemistry. During my time at Truman I developed a love for chemistry and it became my favorite subject. I considered changing majors, but chose to remain a biology major to avoid going extra years. My interest in chemistry and biology is what motivated me to become a tutor. I want to help students understand how chemistry and biology interconnect. I hope to do this by providing them with very good understanding of basic concepts and show them how taking the time to develop a foundation of knowledge will make future learning easier and help them learn on their own.
My approach to ACT tutoring differs from how I teach just biology or chemistry. The ACT covers such a range of topics that complete understandings of everything is sometimes impractical. I believe repetition helps immensely with the ACT. Taking multiple practice tests followed by careful analysis over the missed questions helps students find their weak areas and work on those specifically. I prefer having the student take practice tests both timed and untimed on their own time so that when we meet the entire time can be spent identifying and working on areas of concern.
When I am not tutoring or working I like to spend time with my two dogs, family and friends. I enjoy being active and outdoors.
