I have recently completed my first year in engineering from at The Ohio State University. I am a computer science major, with a minor in economics. After undergrad, I plan to pursue an MBA. At Ohio State, I am a member of the Buckeye Table Tennis Club and J.A.M club. I also volunteer at my local temple, helping out with events and being a counselor for a week-long camp held anually. Some other hobbies of mine include playing the piano, working out, and listening to music.
Having recently taken Calculus 2 and General Chemistry 1 & 2, I feel the most confident in tutoring math and chemistry. This includes the AP Calculus AB, AP Chem, and the SAT Chemistry Subject Test. I am able to tutor previous math courses as well such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus. Furthermore, I can help with ACT/SAT prep, having scored in the 99th percentile on the ACT and 98th on the SAT.
My teaching style is to relate concepts found in common subjects to real life applications. I don't feel that it is enough for a student to simply memorize the steps of a problem. Rather, they should understand why a concept is relevant for real world use. For example, explaining a derivative as the slope of a curved line at a certain point is not as effective as showing a car with speed as a derivative of its position. If students can understand how what they are learning is relevant, then they will likely be more able to retain a particular concept.
I enjoy helping students, and I hope to be an effective tutor for you. I always look forward for the lightbulb moment in a student's learning: the moment where the student says "I understand this!" I hope that every student reaches their goals and I am looking forward to helping you learn and grow.
