Hello, I'm Dr. Diane. My doctorate in curriculum and instruction serves us well during tutoring lessons. I have tutored students for 20+ years now. Students learn from me in one lesson what would normally take several lessons.
My focus is on reading for comprehension, writing for academic success, strategies to use during test-taking and helping students build study skills. I have tutored students from elementary age up to the university level. Tutoring is a very rewarding experience for me. I try to present the lesson or assignment in a way that is easy for students to understand. At the same time, I have high expectations. In preparing students for the critical reading and writing sections of standardized tests (ACT, EOC, ISEE, the New SAT and STAAR), I specialize my tutoring around the strengths and/or weaknesses of my students: pointing out strengths while silently problem-solving weaknesses. I provide test-taking strategies and immediate feedback on answer choices.
As a goal-driven individual, I must see student progress. One of my students aced both the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. She is currently in her junior year at UT Austin working in the Pre-Med PACT program and living her dream to be enrolled in a top pre-med program of study.
During one of my full-time positions I taught student teachers, so I know how important it is to teach according to the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills). Also, as a middle school teacher, I used the TEKS as my own benchmark which was very rewarding since I am accomplishment-driven.
My specialty is working with creative and gifted children, those with visual spatial intellence, low performers, and English Language Learners. My program focus during graduate school was Second Language Acquisition. I have taught for 4+ years.
Let me show you how you or your child could reach his or her potential!
