I am a senior at the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor studying Community and Global Public Health. I will be applying to medical school next cycle. I have a perfect 4.0 GPA and scored a 97th percentile on the MCAT, with 97th percentile in the Chemistry/Physics section, a 100th percentile on the Biology/Biochemistry Section, and a 98th percentile on the Psychology/Sociology Section of the MCAT. I have extensive knowledge of core STEM classes from taking all the required pre-medical courses, such as organic chemistry 1 and 2 and their labs, physics 1 and 2 and their labs, biochemistry, physiology and lab, genetics, physical chemistry, statistics, and biostatistics. In all of my classes, I asked a lot of questions to ensure full understanding and actively helped my professor answer students' questions on Piazza, a question and answer forum for the class, which made me the #1 contributor on Piazza. My teaching philosophy is promoting understanding, not just memorizing facts and formulas, which is especially important for STEM classes. My goal is to have the student explain their thinking process to me and be able to teach me the material at the end since that is true mastery. Also, it is crucial that the student can apply the understanding to new problems. I know this takes longer, but it ensures long-term understanding and learning. I absolutely love teaching and have been tutoring Biology, Spanish, Chemistry, and Physics since the beginning of high school. I have also tutored ESL students and facilitate weekly conversation circles for international graduate students, so I know how important communication and patience are in an unfamiliar environment. I have tutored many students from different backgrounds like disadvantaged students and students in the hospital. Recently, I worked with two students and helped them increase their grades in Math, their weakest subject to a B+ and A. I also understand how important holistic wellbeing is to students. I am a Health and Wellness Chair and Program Facilitator for First Year Experience, where I create and facilitate programs on crucial topics like time management and prioritizing wellness. I also served as a Health Ambassador for Project Healthy Schools, teaching health promotion lessons to middle school students. In addition, I serve as a Sunday School teacher at my church, so I know how to make lessons engaging, interactive, and incorporate critical thinking that is relevant to students' lives. I look forward to working with your student on their learning journey!
