Many of my friends, classmates, and former professors have said that patience and empathy are my two defining characteristics. Both of these qualities have manifested themselves in many aspects of my life, but perhaps the prominent way is through the multiple experiences I had with tutoring and teaching.
Over the past several years, I have tutored high school and college students individually (both in person and online), facilitated college group workshops, and have served as a teaching assistant for several courses throughout my Master in Public Health (MPH) program. In May of 2020, I was awarded the graduate teaching assistant of the year by my fellow graduate peers. These experiences have given me the ability to adjust and accommodate to various people's needs and learning styles.
For me, one of the greatest joys I have experienced in life is helping others to understand concepts, especially through one-on-one teaching/mentoring. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing those moments where students truly grasp a new concept or idea. If I can make even the slightest difference in a person's life in this way, then any effort that I will have put is always worth it.
