I have an undergrad degree in English from Midwestern State University and a master's in School Counseling from University of Texas Tyler. I'm currently working through the last few classes needed for licensure as a Professional Counselor. Next year I will begin naturopathic medical school. (Counseling will keep me from being a poverty-stricken med student!) As you can see, I am a life-long learner who likes to plan ahead.
I taught high school for almost 10 years, including one year teaching GED classes in a small state prison. I also taught College level Basic Writing, an essay writing class. Although my degree is in English, I have spent more time teaching my minor, History. I love teaching history. The interactions between the major players and the rebels always fascinates me. The political and economic forces at work during World History also made me a great Government and Economics teacher.
Grammar and sentence mechanics are among my strengths. I am a pro at teaching essay writing and editing. It's my nerd superpower! My teaching and tutoring style is very student-centered. I invest in knowing how my students learn and what style of teaching works best for them. I like to think I have a great sense of humor and it helps the process.
My hobbies outside of teaching include knitting and crochet. I also have my own small costume stop where I create cosplay and theatrical costumes. Garment construction is a lot like writing an essay. The key to success is in the planning!
