I am a graduate of Clearwater Christian College, where I received my B.A. in English, with minors in music and Bible. I have taught 8th-12th grade college preparatory English at a private school. As we covered grammar, composition, literature, spelling, and vocabulary, I was known by my animated, inspiring approach to teaching, even right down to those sentence diagrams. I appreciate the logic, structure, and rules of these arenas, and communicating it to others. While I particularly favor all English-related studies, I also enjoy classroom music, including piano playing/accompaniment and theory.
My approach to these different subjects remains basically the same: these subjects were established on sets of rules, and our memorizing, following, and building off these rules allows us the structure to master and advance. In my experience helping struggling students, we figured out the most fruitful study methods for each student, reviewed and practiced the basics, and then gradually moved into harder concepts. Students surprised themselves by gaining confidence and taking off on their own, learning another small lesson of how to succeed in life. I am a firm believer that "to believe you can is everything," and as a tutor, my goal is to inspire, guide, and empower students to achieve the best they can, because they can!
In addition to teaching and tutoring, I have also done some freelance editing, and am in the process of publishing my children's stories. Outside of academia, I enjoy upcycling and DIY projects, powerwalking, cooking, and watching period films -- and truth be told, my list of favorites is a mile long!
