When I left the tech world years ago to pursue a less sedentary life, I had the good fortune of meeting Josh Lippman, the legendary founder of AlphaPrep in Fairfield Connecticut. AlphaPrep focused primarly on SATs and ACTs (I got a 2200 on my SATs and 34 on my ACTs) though I also tutored Physics, Economics, Algebra II, Calculus, Precalc and many others. Through Josh's advice and my relationships with hundreds of students, I came to see that tutoring is about creating a unique learning style to help each student best make sense of the material.
Before long, more and more parents began to ask for me by name. Their kids were hardworking and bright but still struggling with large gaps in their fundamental skills. We focused on their own specific needs -algebra, grammar, reading- at whatever pace was right for each day. I saw many students make large strides in difficult classes and I had many very grateful customers. However the "Slow and Steady" motto is not always easy to sell in the high-stakes world of Test Prep. That's why I founded my own company.
Tutoring works best when you start with plenty of time before your test, when you practice multiple times a week, and when you and your tutor can really understand each other's brains. That's why I am substantially lowering my prices and taking on fewer clients to meet regularly with me throughout the full course of their class or Test Prep cycle. I love getting to know people personally, seeing their faces light up when they slip into a groove, and growing their confidence with each lesson. I am certain that we will have fun and learn a lot, I can't wait to get started!
