I am a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont working towards a double major in Classics and Dance with a potential minor in Linguistics. As a high schooler, I participated in a service trip to Jamaica to teach math, English, and biology to pre-K through middle school students. At my high school, I tutored beginning Latin, peer-reviewed papers, and worked as the costume supervisor for several productions. For two summers, I had a costume internship at the Sitar Arts Center and worked with six- to seventeen-year-olds. In my spare time, I read, kayak, hang out in my hammock, and train in jiu jitsu.
Of the subjects I tutor, I am most passionate about Latin and writing. I’ve studied Latin for seven years and found deep satisfaction in gaining fluency. In my experience, the most effective way to learn a language is to read and hear lots of at-level input that lays the groundwork for language production. The process of refining ideas through writing is deeply rewarding for me. To help students explore and flesh out their ideas, I would ask questions about their paper topic and write down their responses, talk through their outline together, and read papers out loud to listen for flow, clarity, and grammar.
I love teaching because I love kids, and because education is the best investment of time, energy, and resources a person can make on behalf of their local and global communities.
