We continued to work through problems with objects moving linearly. We practiced finding the average velocity and average speed of an object given its position function as well as when given its velocity vs. time graph. We practiced using the equations of motion for objects moving with constant acceleration. We went through the relationship between the position, velocity, and acceleration functions for an object in linear motion, both graphically and using functions. We looked at how to take the integral of the acceleration function and a specific velocity and position for a given time to find the equations for velocity and position. Lastly, we reviewed how to solve problems for objects in free fall. The student is doing better working with the equations of motion once he is able to determine if they can be used, and he is doing better remembering how to use derivatives and integrals to go between the position, velocity, and acceleration functions.

We went over the two remaining tests in the unit. We went over resistors in circuits, how to calculate the equivalent resistance for resistors in series (Re=R1+R2), and in parallel (1/Re=1/R1+1/R2). We also went over modern physics, the dual nature of light, both wave-like and particle-like. The energy of a massless particle, photons, is E=hf, where h is Planck's constant and f is frequency. The energy of particles with a rest mass is E=mc^2. Using those equations, one can solve for energy from a given amount of mass, or for the frequency or wavelength of light from the energy.
