Anatomy Tutoring review by Michael in Merrillville, IN
The student and I continued reviewing concepts related to reactions dealing with chiral organic molecules, choosing to focus further on elimination reactions and their mechanisms. Specifically, we reinforced ideas about how to analyze E1 and E2 reactions in terms of degrees of reactivity, solvents, nucleophiles, leaving groups, and the creation of alkene bonds. She also had some questions about how to go about solving problems dealing with the stability of substrates and their role in reactivity, carbocations, and reaction stereochemistry. Overall, she has become much more confident from the first time we met, able to apply concepts more powerfully to problems than before.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Natalie in Merrillville, IN
Today we discussed the student's environmental science test that he had recently taken. It covered measurement units and tools. He was able to correctly convert between metric units just in his head, but I suggested to continue using pencil marks to show the decimal moving left/right so he doesn't make a minor error. We went over meters, grams, and liters, highlighting some common examples in which we see or use these measurements to help him remember. He also had a homework assignment from class that included an article on misspending of the government money in the Green Initiative due to a metrics conversion error. We answered 3 questions related to the passage and I questioned his understanding of the big topic -buying carbon emissions credits, he seemed to grasp the concept after discussion.

Then, we looked at the recent developments in cosmology and how they change our perspective of the subject. For our next session, I recommended a textbook, and we will spend time covering each section.

Today, we used a simulation and clicker questions to review atomic structure before delving into periodic trends. We completed the first section of the online inquiry together, analyzing trends for groups and periods. For homework, the student is to complete part 2 in which she must use the different trends to identify unknown elements. This material is still review for her. We have not moved on to new material as of yet. However, her abilities to apply and analyze are increasing. Next week, we will finish up periodic trends, discuss electron configurations, and begin our review of bonding and nomenclature.

Anatomy Tutoring review by Nick in Merrillville, IN
Today, we went over all but one of the student's pre-class problem sets. It was rather repetitive and mostly revolving around arranging and naming ionic compounds. The last chunk we worked on was all on charge attraction and repulsion. Tomorrow, we will finish up working on limiting reagent and theoretical yield problems.
