Hi all! My name is Carson, and I'm a rising sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing a career in medicine. I graduated valedictorian of my class at Canal Winchester High School in 2016, and as a recent college applicant, I know how stressful and overwhelming the last few years of high school can be. I’m here to help in any way possible!
I began tutoring during my sophomore year of high school. Grace, a local 7th grader, needed help grasping math concepts, so I agreed to help. I didn’t know much about tutoring before I began, but it was a really rewarding experience for me. It was amazing to see her grow, not only in the numerical scores of her math tests, but also in confidence she began to display in later sessions. I realized that I had really transformed Grace’s perception of her abilities, and it made me feel very influential.
I enjoyed working with Grace so much that for the next two years, I helped my friends with their ACT preparation. As a 99th percentile scorer, I knew I had a strong understanding of the tested concepts, and I wanted another opportunity to use my skills to benefit others. In working with them, I developed a structured, comprehensive approach to studying for the ACT. My strategy heavily utilizes practice exams, as those contain the exact type of questions that will be asked on the test. When we identify any recurring mistakes, I will give the student a concept review tailored to that specific topic. By focusing on weak points and patiently strengthening them, I bolstered my friends’ confidence and ability to do well on the test, and I hope others can benefit from my help similarly.
I hope you consider me for all of your tutoring needs!
