What is your teaching philosophy?
Make it connect. If it doesn't seem relevant, then why would it matter?
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know each other! I want to know my student's interests, passions and life goals. I want to understand how they connect with the world so I can better connect with them.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Build personal accountability. Help instill the fact that life is not what happens to us but how we respond.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
With a rewards system. People need incentives, and prizes always add fun!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would be patient and make sure to listen closely to how my student is struggling. I would then focus on those opportunities to improve and use strategies, like repetition and imagery, to help it stick.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Get them engaged! I ask questions, get their feedback, put them in the story, or make connections with real-life events.
