Hello! My name is Brittany, and I look forward to working with you.
I've worked as a tutor on and off for nearly ten years. My main focus has been assisting ESL students with English, and I worked as a junior high school teacher in Japan for two years before returning to the U.S. I've assisted college students with literature comprehension and essay writing, as well as adults and children with everything from business English to the fundamentals of grammar. I have also studied Japanese for twelve years, honing my skills through translation and editing and assisting fellow students however possible.
My core belief is that education should be fun. Learning from textbooks and standard memorization techniques can be difficult, especially when the material is presented in a way that is not particularly interesting or captivating. Flashcards and textbooks are fantastic learning tools, but in my experience, supplementing them with games, songs, television shows, or anything else of interest to the student makes memorization and understanding much easier.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, I enjoy reading books, writing, playing video games, and experiencing everything Seattle has to offer. I did dance and martial arts in Japan, and I'd love to get back into it soon.
My hope is that we can work together to build a great relationship, and that I will be able to support you as much as I can. I am dedicated to working with you until you are comfortable, confident, and eager to take on whatever challenges await. I can't wait to hear from you!
