My name is Daniel and I graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. I was a Mathematics major with a strength in math. I am pretty flexible when it comes to my availability. I also live in Chesapeake, VA over the summers as that is where my family lives. I used to tutor people for service hours in high school, and even just for fun to help out my friends and siblings. I can learn any topic that I may be rusty on and can help you achieve your goals. Let's learn!

Q & A

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an individual learner by teaching them how to study and what to look out for.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student has difficulty with a skill, I would try to teach it in different ways until the student grasped the concept completely and reevaluate the way I had previously taught the skill.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would be able to connect with the student because I had the same problem. I would help the student relax and look at the material a different way.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The strategies that work best are to have the student show me how they would attempt what they have trouble with and I can learn exactly what they need help with most.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would show the student real world applications and break down the topic enough so they feel like they are a pro at it.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that every student has equal ability, although they are in different areas. The ability in one area can be used to assist in another area.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

To be sure a student understands the material I would have a student teach me how to do problems to ensure they know the material well enough.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

To build a student's confidence I would show the students that they truly do know what they are doing.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

To evaluate a student's needs I would observe the way he/she go about solving problems and visualize the key parts he/her is struggling with.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I can adapt my tutoring to the student's needs by changing my perspective on a topic and allowing myself to teach it a different way.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The materials I use during a tutoring session are old books on the course, the internet, and the current textbook of the students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session I would have the student go over some problems so I can see exactly what points need to be worked on as I tutor.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

To help a student stay motivated I would continuously show them that they are becoming a pro on the subject and that they are grasping the concepts, no matter the speed.
