I received my B.A. in History from the University of California, Davis and my M.A. in Social Science Research from the University of Chicago. After earning these degrees and spending several years working in the private sector, I decided to pursue a career in teaching. I am currently working toward completing my M.A. in Teaching from the University of Maryland, University College. Tutoring allows me to apply the skills I've learned in my coursework to help students succeed, whether they need help understanding concepts in English or History, crafting clear and concise essays, or building stronger study habits and skills. I believe that rather than telling students exactly what to think or what to write, a tutor's primary role should be to fill in gaps of knowledge, to provide resources, and to encourage students to think about how new information relates to broader concepts they already know. I truly value and appreciate the experience of tutoring because it helps me become better equipped to help students in my future classrooms.
