It goes without saying that being an effective tutor requires a firm grasp of the subject and the ability to explain complex ideas in clear and intuitive ways. However, as I have learned during my years of tutoring experience, a good educator also needs to have the ability to engage pupils and to give them the tools that they need to succeed on their own. This means not only teaching students the material, but also familiarizing them with effective learning strategies and helping them develop strong study skills--all in a way that is supportive and which capitalizes on their existing strengths.
I tutor at the middle school, high school, and college levels. My primary focus is on verbal subjects, including critical reading, essay-writing, and SAT/GRE prep. I aim to help students develop the strong language and analytical skills that they need to excel in these areas. In addition, I offer math and German-language tutoring.
