Determine what literacy skills they are lacking and start from there.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
All students are different, but many of them tend to retain information better when you focus on inquiry or relate the subject matter to something they know.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Build their interest, stress the importance, and help them gain confidence so they have a stronger sense of self efficacy
