As a former English teacher with over 15 years experience (from middle school through college), I have specialized in the teaching of writing. I'm a published writer myself, and currently working on a new masters degree in Boulder in religion. I have worked with students ranging from 6th grade through college freshman, but most of my teaching career was with 6th - 12th graders, teaching writing and all kinds of literature. I help students find their voices in written work while also learning to adhere to academic standards. With my own children, I've worked on improving their college admissions essays (and all three of my kids were accepted at top colleges), so I can help you too. I try to make reading and writing fun, interspersing serious reflection and interpretation of literature with good humor. I'm a graduate of Wesleyan University with a BA in English, and also hold an MFA in fiction writing from UMASS-Amherst.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in empowering students to find their voices in writing, and to give voice to their own critical skills in reading literature.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know each other, and then figure out the student's short and long-term study needs, and begin working!
