I am currently employed as an Instructional Designer but have spent a number of years in the classroom and online as a teacher.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the University of Arizona. I then earned my teaching certificate from Arizona State University in Secondary Education with an emphasis on English. I recently earned my Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Northern Arizona University.
During my tenure as a classroom and online instructor, I tutored a number of students as my easygoing nature and approach to learning worked well with students. I am well versed in ELA (English Language Arts) courses but can pretty much tutor any subject area.
My approach to tutoring is not necessarily to "give" the answer, but rather to allow the student to be able to come to the correct conclusion with guidance and prompting. I feel that students learn, and more importantly, retain knowledge at a deeper level when they are the ones to arrive at the answer themselves rather than being spoonfed the answer.
When I am not working or tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a wonderful wife and two lovely young daughters. When free time allows, I like to play guitar, play tennis or go cycling. I also enjoy hiking, reading, watching sports, and all things Apple.
I believe you will find working with me engaging and that you will learn to be an independent thinker so that as you succeed, you will develop the skills to regulate and self-learn.
I truly enjoy helping kids learn and showing them the value of education. I look forward to helping every student I work with make successful gains in their academic career.
