I am a graduate of Elon University with a degree in History and double minors in International Studies and Political Science. As part of graduating at Elon, students are required to fulfill an ELR credit (or, Experiential Learning Requirement). I chose to pursue volunteering through our Avalon club, which teamed up with the Center for New North Carolinians and Americorp to bring tutoring services to refugee children. It was a massive challenge and an incredible learning experience helping to assimilate children with language barriers. I believe in the Socratic teaching method, which allows for the student to critically think and come to their own conclusion. I also believe patience is the greatest tool a tutor can possess and give to a student.
I consider tutoring an extremely important aspect of learning and I intend to enter grad school with the goal of education and teaching as the end result. My tutoring experience covers all aspects of history and social studies, reading and writing, English, essay revision, biology, and psychology. In my free time I absolutely love to read, hanging out with my dog Chaucer, playing my banjo, and watching historical documentaries!
