What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I believe it is important that the student feels comfortable and relaxed during our meetings. Therefore, in addition to introducing myself, I like to have students tell me about themselves- their likes and interests, activities they are involved in, etc. I discuss how I typically structure our time together. Not only do students need to know what to expect, but this allows them to feel involved in the learning process. I discuss with the student on which skills/areas we will be working.
