About Me

I am a recent graduate of the University of Virginia where I earned my Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision. I previously attended Old Dominion University where I completed coursework in counseling and in education. I have taught math in two highly competitive school districts and presently work as a STEM instructional specialist in 7 schools elementary, middle, and high school. The coolest part about teaching and tutoring math is that I can take an intimidating subject that many students don't enjoy and help them gain confidence and a connection to themselves. I take special care to make sure my students understand that it is okay to make mistakes and provide them effective feedback so that they learn from them. When necessary, I like to break down new concepts in to more basic skills so students can discover patterns and relationships owning their new knowledge instead of being told tricks and formulas. Ultimately, I do my best to build strong relationships with "my kids" and meet each individual where he or she is while providing the needed push to go beyond just "surviving" math class. When I am not immersing myself in the land of acadamia, you could find me hanging out with my own two children, reading, and watching sports.
