Ever since I can remember I have been interested in problems that have a clear answer. One of the reasons I love Mathematics is because when you arrive at an answer, it is either right or it is wrong. There is very little room for gray area. I find solace in this, knowing that problems are completed correctly with a replicable process. Using this passion, I achieved a BS in Statistics at Virginia Tech and also minored in Mathematics and Actuarial Science.
However, I also love tutoring other subjects and showing students some of the tricks that can be used to find answers. So often students get bogged down in the process and do not realize what they are doing so when a "curve ball" problem is thrown at them, they are clueless and start to become anxious. My goal is to get the students to understand the larger idea and then find the easiest way of coming up with an answer. This way, they know when they arrive at an answer that cannot be right and know where they are making their errors.
