My name is Elaine and I am an Ph.D. student at UA in Second Language Acquisition & Teaching major, with a minor in Language Reading & Culture in the College of Ed here. My area of interest is student success, college access, and more recently precision medicine challenges.
** I have assisted 3 students with their successful Flinn Foundation applications (they all won), and also have assisted students to get into Duke, Yale, Stanford, and Northwestern to name but a handful of top universities.
My students interests have ranged from engineering to business to languages. I am quite fluent in multiple subject disciplines.
My clients have ranged from middle school language arts to postgraduate American Literature students. At Duke I taught a similarly broad range of classes and also worked as a tutor for the athletic department. (Yes, I was teaching feminist literature classics to football players!) My student evaluations were among the best possible, and I received the outstanding graduate instructor award in 2007. I was ultimately selected to lead department wide pedagogy workshops aimed at mentoring incoming teachers.
I'm not a dull, nerdy tweed-covered kind of Professor-like instructorin fact, students say Im cool. Together, we can help you and your student overcome testing anxiety, demoralization and also; get excited again about learning academic content-acquisition skills!!.
I have found that what I truly love is helping others to succeed using multiple tutorial methods. I truly believe that anyone can understand writing and analysis. In fact, English / writing and other learned academic languages, can be made comprehensible and simple to master, as long as it is explained well!
In my free time, I love yoga and giving talks at conferences. I love learning as much as I can about Tucson! I also love mountain hiking--Douglas Springs is a favorite by Saguaro National, East.
Hope to hear from you soon!
