I have a lot of experience both teaching in classrooms and tutoring one on one at elementary, middle, and high school levels. I began tutoring as a high school student where I worked with other students in my school district tutoring mostly math and science. Then, before attending college I spent 6 months teaching English in Peru. Last year, as a sophomore in college, I was a TA for the Spanish Department, responsible for creating and executing my own lesson plans for two one-hour classes per week for Spanish 102, grading homework and designing my own quizzes. I also tutored occasionally through our on-campus tutoring program. Finally, for the past two summers I have worked at the extremely rigorous Breakthrough Collaborative Teaching Internship at their Miami, Florida location teaching 5th and 6th grade science, where I a was again responsible for my own lesson plans, classwork, homework and quizzes.
I am very interested in working with Varsity Tutors as I absolutely love working with children, especially in a teaching capacity. I enjoy the challenge of working through a topic with a student, thinking of all the possible ways to approach a problem or explain a concept, until finally I find one that clicks with them and their learning style, and then seeing the look of pride and accomplishment as they understand the question and can answer it.
