Tutoring review by David in Shepherdsville, KY
During our time this session, we got to know each other briefly and then we dove into the book that she is reading for English, "First They Killed My Father." We discussed the background of the book and the pages that the student had read. Because she was not up to date with the readings, she spent some time reading and then answering the study guide questions that aligned with the reading. During this time she would ask me to clarify some of the questions and to check if her answers were correct. I gave her some strategies for reading comprehension. I told her to look over the questions before she reads the chapter so that she can mark in the book the spots of importance. She stated that she skips pages sometimes when reading, and I told her that this was not a good strategy because she could be missing out on major details or scene changes in the story. I told her what pages she needed to read tonight and how to prepare for her quiz tomorrow.
