Recent Harrisonburg Tutoring Session Notes
We began our session today by looking at a couple problems on the last test that she had gotten wrong. These dealt with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational expressions. We then worked on her current homework set for around half an hour. This topic was probability, mostly dealing with probability of multiple events occurring together. After she felt confident with these, we went back to a few of her old tests and worked through the problems she had missed. Most of these were problems with radical expression.

In this session with the student, we spent our time reviewing subjects from his list of finals review topics. He was doing very well as we moved from topic to topic and did not seem to struggle with anything in particular. With the schedule he has laid out for himself, I am confident that he can do well, as long as he maintains this schedule. Although he was surprised by an unexpected Chapter 12 test yesterday, he still maintained his optimism and felt it went well. Overall, I recommended that he evaluate the efficiency of his plan and make sure that he can get through all the material he lays out for himself each day.

The student and I first took a quiz on the vocabulary words she had studied this week. She clearly knew the definitions. We will still need to work on recognizing and using words in context. We then worked on reading passages and sentence completion. Next week we will work on the essay.

We did a review of previous concepts for the student's test on Wednesday. It was on how to use sign charts to characterize a function and getting maxes, mins, and concavity. We also looked at how to find antiderivatives and the notation associated with that.

The student informed me that the English and Math sections are his weak points. I went over the most commonly tested grammatical errors. I then followed this with a discussion of algebra 2 and trigonometry topics. We will be meeting again tomorrow to go through actual test questions to see how well he absorbed the English lesson from today.
