We continued our work with power series and Taylor series today, explaining how to perform operations on series including multiplication, addition, and derivation. We also spent some time learning about coordinate shifts. The class was expected to memorize the directions of coordinate shifts, so we went over a method for deriving it each time involving u-substitution.

We went over a some math problems from yesterday which consists of multiplication by one digit. This is what the student is currently learning in school. Todays lesson was on reading in sequential order. I had left some reading stories consisting of this reading concept last week with the student. These are stories we went over today which were questions three through sixteen. After this, we worked on some more sequential reading stories. The tutoring session today went very well. I took some notes for next week which we will be covering the reading concept compare and contrast and we will work on multiplication with money and move to two digits.

We reviewed his algebra exercises from class and practiced long division. Then we continued with Pythagorean theorem problems and did some series and word problems from an MCAS practice exam.

We reviewed his homework. It was about the logs and their properties. I explained how he can use different properties of logs to find the answer for each question. He understood them and he was able to solve them by himself. He is doing well.

The student and I worked on combining like terms in algebraic expressions with heavy emphasis on fractions.

We went over more algebra 2 concepts, including two unit quizzes. We also went through our two first written exams and the student did a wonderful job on both! I've already noticed much improvement in his understanding and practice with the material. He catches on very fast to all my comments and anything that he may struggle with at first. Overall, I see this session as another great achievement!
