The student informed me that his quiz for last week ended up being a group quiz, and he correctly answered his assigned problem as apart of the group. He also mentioned that his unit test went well, but he did not have his grade back yet. We reviewed his homework for the next unit on exponent rules. I encouraged him to write each problem in expanded form, distribute any and all whole numbers, and re-write negative exponents using reciprocals. After he seemed comfortable writing the problems out in expanded form, I demonstrated a shorter version using additional problems I provided. He was able to catch on to the shorter version while solving problems, so we decided to expand the lesson and preview some additional exponent topics that he might see during the upcoming week: adding, subtracting and dividing with positive and negative exponents. I asked him to rate how comfortable he felt with the material at the end of our session, and he said about a "9."ù He liked that we previewed content before learning it in class. The student was very attentive and seemed to master the concepts covered.

We reviewed a math assignment that the student had missed from class yesterday. Again, the assignment dealt with solving systems of equations. I feel like she has gotten a really good grasp on this, and can now easily identify whether it would be easier for her to use substitution or elimination, and she can do both with relative ease.

After some brief introductions, I asked the student what she wanted help in and what she wanted covered for the session. She mentioned the French numbers and French vocabulary regarding the family (la famille, la soeur, etc.) were what she wanted to be tutored for the evening. We dedicated most of the session to the French numbers, a system in which she was able to get a more precise and closer look. Since her French teacher wanted the numbers 1 to 2000 covered, I divided the numbers into easier, more manageable steps for her, first starting with covering 1 to 10, and then 10 to 16, and then 17 to 20, and then 20 to 30, and 30 to 40, and so on, to the French number for 2000. Each portion of the number line had its own specific nuances, and we covered each of the numbers, practiced them by putting them in a sentence, and practiced their pronunciation till she enhanced her skill. The student was learning very quickly and was perspicacious immediately, having a correct accent after hearing the French pronunciation of each French number I provided. We covered the numbers backwards as well, which was interesting and a learning method I thought would strengthen her French numbering skills (since it's easier to say it forwards for most people). I then helped with the vocabulary associated with the family. I encouraged her to obtain the class syllabus from her teacher so we know what's coming up with tests, quizzes, assignments, and homework. Very productive first session.

We covered some of the basics of projectile motion and worked through three problems that varied in difficulty. The student seems to have an excellent grasp of the core fundamentals, with the only thing that I can recommend at this point being that she be aware of her positive/negative signs and the directions that she assigns to them. I believe that she will do well on her exam this coming Thursday, and she should have no problems moving forward through her Physics class. The next session will be one with new material that I will work with her through, and will hopefully get a syllabus from her in the mean time to tailor the work as she progresses through the class.
