How much will it cost to meet with a private tutor in Overland Park?

The cost of working with a private tutor in Overland Park depends on your or your student's specific needs, including where you live, who you review with, how often you intend to meet your instructor, what you need to review, and so on. For example, you may be charged a different rate for a haphazard session schedule than you would be for a clearly-defined itinerary.

Similarly, tutoring for a student focusing on introductory algebra at Valley Park Elementary School would be a different price than tutoring for a student learning geometric proofs at Blue Valley West High School.

While you might assume that tutoring has to take place in a 1:1 learning environment, many instructors offer students a choice of one-on-one and group sessions. Reviewing 1:1 means that you will always be your tutor's top priority, and sharing your instructor with others can make it easier to consider multiple viewpoints. Both are fantastic study tools, and you won't go wrong choosing between them. Varsity Tutors can also enroll you in a cost-effective small group course to supplement any tutoring plan.

Likewise, a private teacher in Overland Park can offer support to both students feeling overwhelmed in class and those searching for a fresh academic challenge. If you are interested in learning more about private instruction including what it could cost, reach out to Varsity Tutors for more info.

What's the easiest way to find a private tutor in Overland Park?

How does Varsity Tutors select tutors in Overland Park?

Finding a tutor on the open market can be a tricky proposition because you're never sure exactly what you're getting. Varsity Tutors solves this problem by using a thorough screening process that very few candidates make it through, allowing you to trust that you or your student are working with a truly exceptional Overland Park tutor.

We begin by verifying each candidate's expertise and communication skills because these are the benchmarks that every instructor is judged by. We also double-check each candidate's availability so students can attend sessions as scheduled. Once these basic requirements are out of the way, we move on to more intangible qualities.

For instance, we look for tutors who are fluent in multiple teaching methods because they are better equipped to respond to a student's needs. We also search for instructors who can assess a student's needs in real-time and adapt accordingly. For example, there is no reason to spend an entire study session on integers if a student grasps the topic within the first five minutes. Most importantly, we prioritize passionate instructors who are willing to do whatever it takes to help a student.

If you have any more questions about how a certified Overland Park tutor could help you reach for your full academic potential, please contact Varsity Tutors right now! Our friendly Educational Directors would be delighted to walk you through our easy signup process.

The Orlando School System

Orlando, Florida, is part of the Orange County Public School (OCPS) District. With an enrollment of about 207,000 students, it is the 4th largest school district in the state and the 9th largest in the country. The area is home to almost 190 public schools, including 20 high schools.

Varsity Tutors can help parents of these students connect with professional Orlando tutors who have the experience and time to work individually with a child to help them reach their academic goals. Whether your child is struggling with concepts in one of the core curriculum areas or they need to be challenged to remain interested in education, private tutoring may offer a solution.

The Florida Standards Assessments, or FSA, exams are for Florida students in grade three and up. These tests provide educators with a tool for measuring a student’s academic progress and growth throughout the entirety of their academic career. The subjects covered are in alignment with the nationally recognized Common Core standards and include Mathematics, English Language Arts; Science in grades five and eight; and End of Course exams in Geometry, Biology, Civics, U.S. History, and Algebra 1.

The first test in the third grade and the exam given in the tenth grade can be especially stressful for students. The third-grade exam requires students to receive a passing score before being promoted to the fourth grade. The tenth-grade exam is the first opportunity students have to pass their final FSA. Students must earn a passing score on this exam before they are eligible for graduation. If a student is unable to achieve a passing score before the end of their senior year, they have a few other options, but a passing FSA score is the easiest way forward.

Standardized exams such as the ACT, SAT, FSA, or ISEE can all add an extra level of stress for students. A personal Orlando tutor can help alleviate some of your child’s anxiety by giving them ample opportunity to prepare themselves for a timed testing experience. This practice can be invaluable, especially for those students who may be needlessly worried that there won’t be sufficient time to answer all the exam questions.

Take a look at how some of the largest schools in Orlando rank against state assessment averages:

Orlando Test Scores

Regardless of your child’s age and strength in testing, they need to stay focused on reaching their academic potential. This becomes especially important as your child enters middle school and begins to consider which university he or she wishes to attend. Are you wondering which high school may be most beneficial in preparing your child for college? We’ve compiled data on some Orlando schools to help begin your research:

Orlando High School Rankings

High School Orlando Ranking State Ranking AP Pass Rate
Winter Park High Schol 1 35 38%
Orlando Science Middle/High Charter School 2 46 N/A
Olympia High School 3 48 36%
Dr. Phillips High School 4 103 38%
Freedom High School 5 107 35%
Lake Nona High School 6 109 32%
Boone High School 7 132 34%
Cornerstone Charter Academy High School 8 148 26%
Legacy High Charter School 9 196 N/A
University High School 10 230 18%

Most parents are aware that a professional Orlando tutor can help their child with specific academic goals such as preparing for a standardized exam or addressing a deficiency in a particular subject. But did you know that all students can benefit from a higher level of personalized instruction? Consider the student-teacher ratios of some of the largest Orlando schools:

Orlando Student-to-Teacher Ratios

Colonial High School has a 24 1 student-teacher ratio.

Dr. Phillips High School has a 21 1 student-teacher ratio.

Freedom High School has a 23 1 student-teacher ratio.

Olympia High School has a 24 1 student-teacher ratio.

Cypress Creek High School has a 21 1 student-teacher ratio.

Florida State Average has a 15 1 student-teacher ratio.

In a traditional classroom setting, a child must share the attention of the instructor with as many as thirty other students at a time. Even in smaller classrooms with only fifteen students, that is still a far cry from personalized instruction. Working with a professional tutor gives your child the opportunity to work with someone on precisely what they need to achieve their academic potential.

If you or your child is preparing for the rigorous transition to college, it is important to remember that professional tutoring isn’t limited to the K-12 arena. Varsity Tutors can help university students connect with private tutors in the Orlando area who can offer the guidance they need to achieve their academic goals. Some of the colleges in the Orlando area include:

Tutoring review by Celeste in Orlando, FL
The student really impressed me today. We went over some practice tests she recently took, and she did so well. She got a 28 and 29 on two science tests, then a 27 on math. Then we went over some science drills and I had her correct her mistakes on one of the science tests.

In this session the student and began reviewing the math portion of the ACT. We tried to work on a brief overview of the concepts so that we could focus our attention on some trouble spots. We also spoke about the strategies specific to the math section of the test. I anticipate several more math review sessions with him before he takes his test.

Tutoring review by Eric in Orlando, FL
The student and I went over the practice worksheet that was distributed in class, which was marked as a "take home quiz".  He and I quickly reviewed that sheet before moving onto his current homework assignment, which covered second derivatives.  Though these problems were simple in concept, they invovled the use of chain rule, product rule, and quotient rules; sometimes even a combination or repeated use of them.  The student needed help with the first few problems but quickly got the hang of the problems, though there were times when he would make simple mistakes. When that did happen, I just told him that I didn't agree with his answer or said stop when the error happens, and more often than not, he was able to correct his mistake on his own.

The student reviewed the ABC's and looked at short and long vowel sounds.  We discussed many common exceptions for these vowel sounds.  Then he read aloud from the Barack Obama bio book and completed it.  He told me he would like to read it again.

Tutoring review by Rudy in Orlando, FL
The student received the results from her last ACT exam. The good news, both her math and science went up. She actually increased her math score by 3. Our sessions will incorporate a little English prep as well. We spent the session reviewing some English grammar rules and math.  Overall, she is doing well. She did admit that the math tutoring is helping as evidenced by her increase in score.
