After reviewing the basics of quadratic equations we went over factoring. I had the student work a few basic factoring problems for review before starting to teach him how to factor polynomials. He had not done any factoring of polynomials in his class yet. He had just had a test over the basics of quadratics and did well.

We worked on finding the common denominator and comparing fractions and questions on area. Extra practice was given on common denominators and multi step equations involving common denominators. This was the student's first exposure to common denominators, and she grasped the idea fairly well. She just needs more practice on common denominators.

The student worked on homework that combined geometry and physics. The homework covered vector components and vector math, finding the magnitude of the total displacement or the total velocity given components. He had to use trigonometry and the trigonometric ratios-sine, cosine, tangent-to find the components of a displacement or velocity vector or the angle of displacement. He also briefly worked on his programming homework and several Python coding questions.

Tutoring review by Scarlett in Fox Chapel, PA
This is a really smart student; she just needed a good tutor. I covered matrices, quadratic formula and factoring. I gave her specific strategies to be able to factor quick and easy. I asked several times if she had questions and she expressed that she understood everything clearly and that it is much easier once she puts the strategies into practice. I enjoyed working with her and I know she will do great.

I went over the student's notes with him. We made corrections and finished the example problems. I showed him how to read the chart: it goes from top to bottom for 0-45 degrees and then bottom to top from 45-90 degrees. I helped him with a selection of problems from his worksheets and corrected errors. I showed him how to calculate trig and inverse trig functions with his calculator. We also looked ahead briefly at section 8.5.
