Tutoring review by Pamela in Casselberry, FL
This evening we reviewed concepts for the student's math test on Friday on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing rational numbers. We reviewed past assignments, walked through incorrect problems, practiced useful problem-solving concepts, and practiced with new problems. We also reviewed the commutative and associative properties, and the concept of inverse additives. I showed her a few tricks with reorganizing and regrouping mixed numbers. We also used the number line to take a visual approach to adding and subtracting negative numbers. She sometimes struggles with double-negatives, which can be tricky. If I nudge her to think about it a bit more or if I phrase an equation differently, she understands. She's doing great and should be prepared for the test, especially after receiving and working through the review packet later this week.

Tutoring review by Phoebe in Casselberry, FL
Overall, the student is doing well. I think it's time for her to take another full practice test to assess what areas we should put more time into. We reviewed a number of sections today. We started by reviewing problem from the quantitative section, then moved on to reading where we focused on identifying the main idea of passages and individual paragraphs. We worked on the verbal section, focusing on the logic puzzles and then ended by reviewing some math problems. She should continue to work on vocabulary development as well.
